COLONA, Ill. -- Michael J. Conger, of Colona, Ill., formerly of Davenport, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2005, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family or Genesis Hospice. He was born October 29, 1951, in Davenport, the son of William and Lorraine (Howard) Conger. On June 30, 1990, he married Nancy Shamsie in Colona. Mr. Conger started his law enforcement career following high school as a Cadet with the Davenport Police Department. He continued as a deputy with the Scott County Sheriff's Department. He also served on the Buffalo Iowa Police Department before serving as Chief of Police at Cordova, Ill. He then was a mental health technician at Vera French in Davenport until October 2003. He was an avid Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed playing golf. He especially enjoyed his family and spending time with his grandson, Andrew. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; children and spouses, Shane and Becky Conger, Faribault, Minn., Nicole (Hintze) and Kevin Roman, East Moline, and Matthew Hintze, Memphis, Tenn.; grandson, Andrew Conger; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Jack Ackerman, Davenport; and aunt and uncle, Charlotte and Robert Entwistle, Davenport. Several cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Lorraine and Ralph O'Grady.
